Description
Hypericum perforatum. Also known as Rosin Rose.
This evergreen, perennial herb offers yellow flowers in spring and summer. When the buds or seeds are crushed, they produce a red-purple liquid.
The plant enjoys a full sun position (for best flowering results) and it’ll grow roughly 60cm high with a spreading habit.
It prefers lighter, sandy soils, although it can handle a variety of soil types.
Although not a culinary herb, the flowers are edible.
St John’s Wort is widely recognised as being a treatment for some forms of depression. Traditionally, the plant is used topically for burns, muscle pains and abrasions.
