The rhizomes of this perennial are used to make orris root powder. The dried root makes a very fragrant powder that is widely used in perfumery. This is not a culinary herb but there is anecdotal evidence that it can help treat colds.
Orris Root prefers well draining soil, enjoys a full sun position (but can take some shade).
It’ll grow to about 80cm high x 1m wide and has nice white flowers.
