Description

Red Dragon Fruit.

With its pink skin and red flesh, the red dragon fruit offers visually amazing fruit, with a sweet taste and a texture similar to kiwi fruit. The fruit can be eaten raw, dried or made into juice or wine. The fruit is low in calories and high in vitamins and minerals.

Dragon fruit are cactus and subsequently enjoy warmth and a sunny position in sandy, loamy, free draining soil. They can tolerate poor soils.

Dragon fruit plants are vining cactus (climbers) and require support. As the plant matures, it’ll form aerial roots from the branches as it searches for things to climb. They are often grown on trellises or other supports. An annual prune will help with air circulation, maintaining height and help prevent fungal infections.

Over watering can result in the plant rotting. Only minimal watering is required.

The flowers open at night and offer a beautiful fragrance of jasmine, citrus and vanilla.
