Prunella vulgaris.

This low-growing herbaceous perennial prefers a part shade position in moist soil. It is a hardy plant that can handle various soil types.

The purple flowers will help attract bees and butterflies. 

The young leaves can be eaten raw in salads, cooked in stews and soups or used in tea.

In folk medicine, this plant is highly regarded. It has a long history of varied uses, the most common being the treatment of sore throats and assisting with the healing of wounds.

The plant grows to about 20cm in height.
