You can plant the coir pot directly into the ground, which will eliminate root disturbance and help keep your plant happy. The roots will make their way through the pot and into the soil. The pot itself will decompose within about two months in healthy, watered soil.

Description

Abutilon indicum. 3.7L coir pot.

Native to various tropical and sub-tropical areas, Indian Mallow is a herbaceous perennial with yellow flowers.

The plant enjoys a full sun position in free draining, fertile soil, and should grow to around 2.5m high by 1.5m wide.

Indian Mallow has a long history of medicinal use.

It was / is traditionally used to treat lung diseases such as tuberculosis, colic, coughs and bronchitis. To treat these ailments, all parts of the plant were boiled down and drunk. The strong ‘tea’ drink was said to relieve symptoms and boost immunity, and also assist in relieving symptoms of colds and fevers.

The plant was also believed to assist in healing ulcers and boils, assisting the liver, and fighting and controlling bacteria and fungi. For those suffering from degenerative nerve diseases, it was believed the leaves may assist.

The plant has also been used to increase sperm production and fertility.

Diarrhoea and internal worms were believed to be treated by the seeds of the plant.
