A pretty big change is currently taking place at the Kalamunda Plant Company, as I proudly make the transition completely from plastic pots to coir pots that’ll break down in the soil. No more plastic!
For years, I’ve grown the Sabrina Hahn – Hort with Heart range in coir pots, and during this time I’ve really gained an appreciation of the importance of limiting plastic use where I can when growing and selling plants.
I’ve wanted to make the change earlier but I’d already pre-bought tens of thousands of plastic pots. Agh! I always encouraged returning of the pots, where I’d sterilise and reuse them, but now they’re coming to an end, so it’s time for the change. I feel such a sense of relief and so much extra pride in what I’m doing by not growing or selling my plants in plastic pots.
So for customers placing orders over the next few weeks, some plants may still be supplied in their plastic pots, whilst others will start being supplied in the coir pots.
The product photos on the website will still show the plants in plastic pots for some time as I need to re-photograph over 250 different plant varieties throughout the year and load them onto the website, which is going to take some time.
There won’t be any price rises due to the use of the coir pots. Plus the bigger pot size options are going to open up the possibility of me growing loads of new types of edibles for you to enjoy.
So please bear with me as I make the transition. It has been a long time coming, but every step in the right direction counts.
