Description
Salvia sclarea. 1.1L coir pot.
This perennial sage from Italy and Syria offers a subtle flavour which is particularly lovely with eggs. It adds a savoury flavour to tangy and sweet foods. The flowers and young leaves also make a pleasant tea and can be used in drinks and jellies.
The plant has a long history of medicinal use. It is believed that the tea may help to reduce muscle spasms and help relieve gas and indigestion. It’s oestrogen-stimulating action may provide assistance with menopause related complaints such as hot flushes.
The essential oil is used in aromatherapy, massage oils and perfumes.
It is small growing (about 35cm H x 40cm W) and produces white to lilac flowers in summer. It prefers a full sun position in well draining soil and requires minimal watering.
Trim back any old or dead foliage when required.
