Description
Banisteriopsis caapi. 3.7L coir pot.
Native to the rainforests of South America, this fast-growing, woody vine is a fundamental and sacred ingredient used to make the psychoactive decoction ayahuasca.
Used in spiritual, ritual and healing ceremonies.
Referred to as ‘vine of the dead’ and ‘vine of the soul’, this perennial vine is considered a master plant teacher in indigenous Amazonian shamanism.
In its natural home, this vine (liana) can grow around 30m, using other plants for support and acting as a ‘sky bridge’ for animals. Although size is often reduced in a garden environment, a strong climbing frame is required.
The plant enjoys a humid, part shade position in moist, free draining soil.
Unconfirmed strain.
