Description
Ocimum gratissimum. Also known as Clove Basil and Tree Basil.
Popular in south eastern Asian cooking, this fast growing perennial has deep green foliage and soft purple flower spikes.
It is easy to grow and offers a spicy clove-like aroma. The flavours partner well with chives, garlic, ginger, mint, oregano and turmeric. The leaves can be blended with other herbs to make herbal tea.
The plant enjoys a full sun to part shade position in fertile, moist soil. It’ll grow to about 1.2m high by 1m wide. Harvest regularly.
