Bay is a slow growing, drought tolerant, evergreen tree which can grow up to around 5 metres in height.
Can be grown in a large pot. As with most plants, it won’t reach its full height in a pot.
Can be pruned into a hedge or topiary.
The leaves are a popular seasoning and spice, and they can be used in cooking.
The leaves can be used fresh or dried. Dried leaves have a shelf life of about one year.
The wood can be burnt to create a smoky flavouring when cooking.
Medicinally, the leaves have been used to treat stomach pains and relieve flatulence. Extracts have been used to assist with arthritis and rheumatism.
