Description
Vasconcellea x heilbornii. 3.7L coir pot.
A member of the Paw Paw family, Babaco is a great tropical plant that offers sherbet-like flavoured fruit.
Pick the lowest fruit first. Fruit can finish ripening off the plant.
Self fertile, so you’ll only need the one plant to get fruit.
Any base or side shoots should be trimmed off to leave one trunk, and this will help maximise fruit yield. In time, leave a side shoot to replace the main trunk, which may lose its productivity after a few years or so.
The plant enjoys a part shade position in fertile, free draining soil, and should grow around 2.5m high by 1m wide. Good drainage is very important.
Mulch well, and ensure the mulch doesn’t touch the base of the plant.
