Description
Gunnera x cryptica syn. Gunnera manicata. 3.7L coir pot.
Native to South America, this vegetable is a monstrous plant with massive leaves and stems (that don’t require staking).
Also known as Giant Brazil Rhubarb, the stems can be peeled and boiled, and I believe are a delicacy in parts of South America, but they’re an acquired taste.
The huge leaves can reach 1.5m across, making it a striking foliage plant, popular with garden designers, and those who like a prehistoric look.
It enjoys moist, fertile soil in full shade, and should grow to about 3m high by 3m wide.
An amazing addition to the garden.
