Also known as Cape Gooseberry and Peruvian Ground Cherry.
Native to Peru, Equador and Columbia, this evergreen perennial shrub is loved for its small orange fruit, which are protected by a papery husk.
If you leave the husk intact, the fruit can last up to three months once picked.
The fruit have a lovely sweet / bitter flavour and very high levels of vitamin A, thiamin, vitamin C, B12, phosphorus and niacin. Now regarded as a super food.
The plant enjoys a full sun position in well draining soil.
Great for pots.
