Ocimum sanctum.
Native to India, this highly aromatic, sacred plant is revered for its spiritual significance, and has traditionally been used in Ayurvedic medicine to assist with colds, flu and digestive issues (among other things).
The flowers, leaves, seeds and stems are used to make tea. The plant is believed to enhance physical and mental endurance, and have antioxidant and adaptogenic properties.
The foliage has a delightful spicy fragrance of fruits and cloves. Popular for oil extraction.
The plant enjoys a full sun position but can handle a little shade.
Fast growing and seeds regularly.
Grows about 60cm in height.
