Native to Europe and Northern Asia, this spreading perennial herb has loads of uses.
The roasted seeds can be used as a coffee substitute, and the fragrant yellow flowering tops can be used as a rennet substitute when making cheese. Best harvested for use when in bloom in summer.
The roots can be used to produce red dye, and the leaves and stems can be used to create a bright yellow dye.
The leaves can be used as a wash to help treat wounds, boils, blackheads and skin problems, and a tea can be made to assist with cleansing the pancreas, spleen, liver, lymph system and kidneys.
Lady’s Bedstraw enjoys a part to full shade position in well draining soil.
