Description
Sambucus mexicana.
This hardy shrub / small tree grows to about 3m high by 3m wide. It enjoys a full sun position and can tolerate a variety of soil types with good drainage.
Pale yellow flowers will appear in spring. A soothing tea can be made from the dried flowers.
The flowers (sometimes called ‘elderblow’), have traditionally been used to increase perspiration and treat fever.
The berries can be used for making preserves and wine. A black dye can be made from the berries and twigs.
