Description
Iris germanica var. florentina. 1.1L coir pot.
The roots of the plant have a distinct violet fragrance, which becomes more pronounced as the roots dry out. The fragrant powder made from the dried roots is widely used in perfumery.
Medicinally, the plant was used to help with coughs and colds, but it’s been surpassed by more helpful herbal treatments and conventional medicine.
This is not a culinary herb.
Native to southern Europe, Orris Root prefers moist, well draining soil and enjoys a full sun position (but it can take some shade). It prefers cooler regions and doesn’t respond well to humid summers.
Orris Root will grow to about 60cm high x 50cm wide and has lovely white with purple flowers.
