Description
Cyphomandra betacea. 3.7L coir pot.
Native to South America, this small tree grows about 3m high by 2m wide, and it enjoys a full sun position in fertile, free draining soil.
The red, egg-shaped fruit is high in vitamins C and E, and they can be dried, eaten raw or cooked and made into a jam or a fruit sauce.
Fruit should develop within eighteen months.
When the plant reaches around 1m in height, you can encourage branching by pinching out the tips. Then give the plant a light prune after each harvest, and this will encourage a good crop, as fruit is borne on new growth.
One of my favourite plants.
