Description
Tamarindus indica. 19cm coir pot.
Native to tropical Africa, this leguminous tree produces brown, pod-like fruits that contain a sweet, tangy pulp.
The pulp has been used in traditional medicine and as a dye.
The flowers, bark, wood, leaves and seeds all have environmental, commercial and culinary uses.
The plant enjoys a full sun position in well draining soil, and should grow around 10m – 15m high in the garden.
Drought resistant and ideal for coastal locations.
