Description
Chrysopogon zizanioides. 3.7L coir pots.
Native to tropical Asia, this hardy, clumping perennial is a great plant for erosion control and chop-and-drop mulch.
The root system is impressive, growing straight down, often to around 3m.
The aromatic roots contain an oil used in cosmetics, insect repellents, perfumes and pot pouri.
A syrup is also made from the roots, used to flavour milkshakes and yoghurt drinks.
The plant enjoys a full sun position in well draining soil (although it can handle all types), and should grow around 1.5m high by 1m wide.
Drought tolerant.
Non-invasive as seeds are sterile.
