Description
Salvia apiana. 1.1L coir pot.
This evergreen, medium-sized perennial shrub is native to Mexico and the South West of the USA, and is the most aromatic of all the sages.
It is a very important plant to the native American tribes where it was (and still is) used for ceremonial and medicinal purposes, and as a food plant.
The leaves and stems are used for purification rituals.
Teas are made from the leaves / roots, and the seeds are used to make flour.
The plant is said to assist in treating sinus infections, menstrual pain and indigestion. It is also used as a non-lathering shampoo to soften hair. Due to its strong antiseptic properties, it has been used to treat infections, tinea, abrasions and sore throats.
The plant enjoys a full sun position in free draining soil. Many people over-water theirs, often resulting in the loss of the plant.
Beautiful white flowers in summer.
