Native to the Mediterranean region, this hardy, evergreen, woody perennial shrub has been used medicinally for thousands of years.
Traditionally used to treat asthma, bronchitis, and cold and flu symptoms, among others.
Tea is made from the leaves, and oil is distilled from the flowers and leaves (sold commercially as Spanish Oregano Oil).
Antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antiseptic properties, among others.
The clusters of purple flowers are loved by bees. In Greece, ‘Hymettus Honey’ is produced from the flowers.
The plant enjoys a full sun position in free draining soil, and should grow around 40cm high by 40cm wide.
Drought tolerant once established.
