Description

Canna edulis. 1.1L coir pot.

Arrowroot has a similar look to its close relative, the ornamental Canna, however this plant is edible.

It will produce small red flowers much like the ornamental Canna and will also produce large red rhizomes which can be eaten raw, cooked as a substitute for potatoes or used as flour as a thickening agent.

The young shoots are also edible and can be used as a green vegetable.

Arrowroot can be used as a shade plant, screening, or as a wind break for garden beds, also creating shade for the plants it is protecting.

It will grow to around 1-2m high and can be harvested year round after six months of it being planted. It will be happiest in rich soil, but will grow in most soil conditions as long as they get plenty of water.
