Description
Helichrysum italicum. 1.1L coir pot.
This is a small perennial herb, growing to a maximum height of 1m.
It enjoys a full sun position in well draining soil.
It has small grey leaves that have a strong curry aroma which is where its name is derived from. However it is no relation to the curry spices or the curry tree.
In summer, small button-like yellow flowers appear on long stems.
It’s leaves and flowers have a flavour similar to sage and can be used as flavouring in hot dishes including fish or vegetables.
The plant produces an oil from its blossoms (produced in spring and summer) which can be used for medicinal purposes. It is an anti-inflammatory, fungicide and can be used to soothe burns and dry skin. It has also been said to be helpful with bruises and varicose veins.
