Description
Silene capensis.
This perennial herb is native to South Africa and is a sacred plant of the Xhosa people of the cape region. The roots of the plant are traditionally used to aid lucid dreaming. It is believed that the triterpenoid saponins found in the roots are responsible for the affects. The roots generally need to be over two years of age.
The plant has lovely white fragrant flowers.
Ideally, it prefers full sun but it will tolerate some shade. It can handle extreme heat as long as it has access to water.
This plant is hard to find and is rather interesting indeed.
