Description

Galium verum.

Native to Europe and Northern Asia, this low, spreading perennial herb can be used in tea to assist with cleansing the pancreas, spleen, liver, lymph system and kidneys.

It has loads of uses, including the roasted seeds being used as a coffee substitute and the yellow flowering tops being used as a rennet substitute when making cheese. Best harvested for use when in bloom in summer.

The roots can be used to produce red dye and the leaves and stems can be used to create a bright yellow dye.

The leaves can be used as a wash to help treat wounds, boils, blackheads and skin problems.

Lady’s Bedstraw enjoys a part to full shade position.
