Description
Backhousia citriodora. 3.7L coir pot.
This popular evergreen medium shrub / small tree offers strongly lemon-scented leaves.
The leaves have loads of culinary uses and the essential oils distilled from the leaves have antibacterial and antifungal properties.
It grows around 3m high by 3m wide in gardens (larger in its native rainforest environment) and can be trimmed to form a screening hedge.
The creamy white flowers are appealing to butterflies and beneficial insects.
The plant enjoys a part shade position in moist, rich, well draining soil. It can handle full sun but it’ll appreciate a little protection from the afternoon sun in summer in Perth.
