Description
Abelmoschus esculentus.
The pods, stems, flowers (and to some extent, the leaves) are red. It is a wonderfully ornamental plant offering yummy pods.
The pods are best picked when they’re about 7-10cm long. Used fresh or dried, they’re most commonly used in soups and stews. Also known as gumbo.
This fast growing perennial will grow to about 1m in height. It enjoys a full sun position in fertile soil. Water well.
