Description
Lactusa virosa. 3.7L coir pot.
Found near the coast in England, and in the Punjab region of Pakistan and India, this fast-growing biennial herb can handle various soil types, and usually grows around 2m in height.
Although far more bitter than commercially grown lettuce, this wild lettuce has greater medicinal and nutritional benefits. The leaves are great in salads and are best eaten when young, as they are less bitter.
Used by physicians in the 1800’s when opium couldn’t be obtained, the plant was often ingested for its mild analgesic and sedative effects. The leaves are popular in creating a calming tea.
