Traditionally taken to treat poor eyesight, headaches, sciatica and varicose veins. Generally the plant is no longer taken internally as it can be toxic in larger doses. It was believed to have anti-spasmodic and stimulant properties and was apparently a favourite of Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo as a creativity enhancer.
