You can plant the coir pot directly into the ground, which will eliminate root disturbance and help keep your plant happy. The roots will make their way through the pot and into the soil. The pot itself will decompose within about two months in healthy, watered soil.

Some cultures regard this sprawling perennial bush as a life extender. Traditionally the leaves have been used in tea and are thought by some to assist with arthritis, cancer, diabetes and prostate health (although there is minimal scientific evidence). Some cultures believe that three leaves a day will prolong life. The leaves are high in vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, C, E, K, as well as calcium, iron, phosphorus and potassium.

The leaves of the plant are often used in the same way that spinach would be used and they’re ideal for omelettes, salads, sandwiches, stir fries, juices and smoothies.

Sambung will tolerate most conditions, although it prefers moist, fertile soils in a part shade position with good air flow. It is ideal for containers and it is easy to propagate via cuttings. A lovely addition to any garden, Sambung is great as a ground cover and will grow to about 40cm – 100cm in height.
