This creeping ground cover is native to Mexico and Central America, and was an important medicinal plant for the Aztec people.
It has traditionally been used to treat coughs, colds, asthma, bronchitis and colic, among other things.
The leaves are very sweet (much sweeter than Stevia and refined sugar) and they’re popular in teas, chilled drinks and salads. They contain camphor which can be harmful to the nervous system in high quantities.
The plant enjoys a full sun position, and can handle various soil types with good drainage.
Ideal for containers and hanging baskets.
