Our two beautiful Bedfords start their journey from Wodonga in Victoria to their new home in Kalamunda.read more
In South Australia during 1948, two particular Bedford trucks were being built by the Holden Motor Company. One was a tip truck. The other was a general lorry. These hard-working trucks were destined for very tough times ahead.
By 2016, the two trucks looked defeated. They were unroadworthy, unregistered, encrusted with rust and sadly wasting away. The lorry no longer ran and was last registered in 1974. It had been decades since the tip truck had tipped a load and it was last registered in 1977. People had been offering to purchase them for garden art or to be butchered and picked apart as scrap.
We felt a real sense of sadness, pride and a kind of duty to respond when we stumbled across them one day. Although the trucks looked tired, we knew they still had some fight left in them. They just needed a helping hand.
In June 2016, they were both purchased by The Kalamunda Plant Company and shortly after, they commenced the very long road journey across Australia from Wodonga Victoria to their new home in Kalamunda in the Perth hills of Western Australia.
